Every year, car crashes in Texas leave tens of thousands of people with injuries that affect their lives forever. Many victims involved in these accidents require extensive medical care for brain trauma, broken bones, and other significant injuries.
Although car crashes can occur at any location, more than one-third of all collisions take place at intersections. As you can imagine, acts of negligence contribute to a significant number of these accidents taking place.
Common Causes of Intersection Crashes
Accidents can take place at intersections for a variety of reasons. In most cases, these crashes are preventable. Common factors in intersection crashes include:
- Failure to Yield Right of Way: Neglecting to yield the right of way to another vehicle, especially in situations like left-turn accidents.
- Running Red Lights or Stop Signs: Drivers failing to obey traffic signals and signs can lead to dangerous T-bone or broadside collisions.
- Impaired Driving: Alcohol or drug impairment impairs judgment and coordination, making it difficult to navigate intersections safely.
- Distracted Driving: Using cell phones, adjusting the radio, or other distractions can lead to inattentiveness and collisions.
