Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Texas

Fatal pedestrian accidents are a major problem in Texas, with the state consistently ranking among the top five in the country for pedestrian deaths. In 2022, there were 829 pedestrian fatalities in Texas, an increase of 0.24% from 2021. This alarming trend is due to a number of factors, including:

  • Increased distractions behind the wheel: Drivers are increasingly distracted by their cell phones and other electronic devices, making it more difficult for them to see and react to pedestrians.
  • More pedestrians walking and biking: The number of people walking and biking in Texas has increased in recent years due in part to the growing popularity of walkable communities.
  • Lack of safe infrastructure: Many Texas communities lack the crosswalks, sidewalks, and other infrastructure that pedestrians need to safely navigate the streets.

The consequences of fatal pedestrian accidents are devastating for families. Unfortunately, fatal collisions often bring with them overwhelming emotional and financial consequences.
