Car Accidents in Texas

Car crash statistics provided from 2022 indicate that more than 15,000 automobile collisions occurred in the state of Texas. These accidents left nearly 19,000 people injured. Regrettably, we see a significant number of collisions take place as a result of negligent and reckless drivers. No matter how safe you are when operating your vehicle, you still are at risk of being hurt by the reckless actions of another person sharing the road.

What Should I Do After a Car Crash?

If you find yourself unfortunate enough to be in this type of situation, there are a few things you need to do after a car crash.

First, you should report the accident to law enforcement immediately. This will ensure an officer responds to the scene, and medical professionals can report to the crash site to render aid to injured parties.

Second, you should collect all of the necessary information from the scene. This includes:

  • Names, vehicle information, and insurance information for all involved parties
  • The names and contact information of any witness to the crash
  • Pictures and video recordings of the crash site, involved vehicles, and injuries
  • A copy of the police report from the responding officer

It is also important that you have a medical examination to determine the extent of your injuries. Even if you do not feel like you suffered any injuries, and examination will be able to help you detect any injuries that are not visible, such as a concussion. This documentation is important when it comes to pursuing legal action later on.

Finally, you should speak with an Austin car accident lawyer right away. Your attorney will be able to take control of the legal work as you focus on overcoming your injuries.
