Fatal Car Accidents in Texas
The sudden and unexpected loss of a loved one can be incredibly difficult to deal with. Unfortunately, more than 4400 people died as a result of vehicle crashes in our states in 2022 alone. Every year, thousands of lives are lost as a result of vehicle collisions that occur on our roadways.
In many cases, fatal accidents are a result of reckless and negligent drivers. We see many of these accidents take place due to drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs, speeding, or otherwise negligent. After losing a loved one in a fatal accident, families have the ability to file a claim for wrongful death against the responsible party.
What Damages Can I Recover?
In wrongful death cases, courts consider various components when determining recoverable damages. These include:
- Lost benefits, such as pension, retirement, and medical or health insurance
- Lost earnings
- Mental and emotional anguish
- Medical expenses accrued after an accident and prior to the passing of a loved one
- Funeral and burial expenses
These damages are calculated through a complex system to determine how much money a family is able to recover after experiencing the sudden and unexpected loss of a loved one. In addition, families may be able to recover punitive damages, which are used to punish the negligent party for the wrongdoing. After experiencing the loss of a loved one, it is vital that you seek representation from a Texas wrongful death lawyer immediately. An attorney will provide you with the best chance of getting justice.
