Texas Car Accidents

Car accidents are reported every day in Texas. Unfortunately, these accidents take the lives of thousands of people while leaving tens of thousands more with serious injuries that affect their lives forever every year.

When innocent people are hurt as a result of car crashes, they have the ability to initiate legal action against those who are responsible. In order to get justice following your crash, you must file a personal injury claim against the person responsible. It is imperative that you adhere to the statute of limitations in Texas.

What is the Statute of Limitations?

When considering the initiation of a car accident lawsuit in Texas, it is important to understand how the statute of limitations may play a role in your ability to do so. This law establishes a timeframe within which you must file your legal claim against the other party involved in the crash. In Texas, the statute of limitations for personal injury cases, including those arising from car accidents, typically extends two years from the date of the incident.

It is essential to be aware that this two-year deadline generally applies to the majority of car accident lawsuits in Texas. However, there may be some exceptions that could either shorten or lengthen the amount of time that you have to take legal action. For example, if the responsible party is a government entity or employee, a much shorter notice period may be required.

Waiting too long to file your lawsuit may result in forfeiting your entitlement to seek compensation for your injuries and damages. For this reason, seeking advice from a seasoned car accident lawyer immediately after an accident is crucial.
