Pedestrian Accidents in Texas

In 2022, pedestrian accidents took the lives of 828 people in Texas. Thousands more were left with serious injuries that affected their lives forever. There are several locations where pedestrian accidents take place across our state. Some of the most common locations include:

  • Parking lots
  • Pedestrian bridges
  • Busy intersections
  • Sidewalks
  • Crosswalks
  • School zones
  • Residential areas

These accidents are reported quite often in both residential and commercial areas. We see countless people affected by these accidents every single day. In many cases, industry and accidents are a result of drivers who are careless when it comes to safely operating their vehicles.

Common Causes of Pedestrian Crashes

There are several reasons why we continue to see so many pedestrians hurt as a result of crashes in our state. Some of the leading causes include:

  • Crosswalk Violations: When drivers do not to yield the right of way to pedestrians who are crossing the roadway in crosswalks, it can lead to serious automobile accidents. Pedestrians have the legal right to cross at designated crosswalks, and drivers must come to a complete stop to allow them to do so safely. When they fail to do so, pedestrians can suffer severe trauma to the head and other significant injuries.
  • Turning Vehicles: Failing to yield when turning is a major cause of pedestrian accidents. When making a turn at an intersection, drivers should always yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk. If they do not, pedestrians may be struck while crossing the street. This can lead to life-altering injuries that require emergency care.

When drivers do not yield the right-of-way to pedestrians, it can have serious consequences. Injured parties should seek legal guidance right away to ensure they are able to get justice.
