Car Accidents in Texas

More than 20,300 people are injured in automobile accidents every month in Texas. These incidents add up to hundreds of thousands of people across our state getting injured in crashes along our roadways. Far too often, people suffer serious injuries in crashes that are entirely preventable. Common factors in auto accidents across Texas include:

  • Drivers who run red lights
  • Drivers who switch lanes in a reckless manner
  • Drivers who are impaired
  • Distracted driving
  • Drivers who blow through stop signs
  • Drivers who tailgate

Regrettably, any negligent action can cause a serious crash that ends in significant injuries for those involved.

Determining Liability after a Crash

After a motor vehicle accident, there are several things that help determine who is liable for the accident. These include:

  • Investigation: Your attorney will gather evidence, interview witnesses, and examine the accident scene to establish liability.
  • Police report: The official accident report can play a crucial role in determining fault.
  • Comparative negligence: Texas follows a comparative negligence system, where each party’s degree of fault affects the compensation. As a result, the amount of compensation you will recover will be decreased if you contributed to the accident in any way.

It is best to seek legal representation from a dedicated Texas car accident lawyer immediately. Your attorney will be able to help you build a strong case and fight for the maximum possible compensation.
