Car Accidents in Texas
Every day, hundreds of automobile accidents are reported in Texas. Far too often, these accidents leave those involved with serious injuries that change their lives forever. Unfortunately, it is common for victims to suffer severe spinal cord injuries, trauma to the head, and other injuries that ultimately change their lives forever. There are many instances where people are harmed in accidents due to the negligence of other drivers.
Many of the crashes reported on our roadways take place as a result of speeding motorists, drivers who are impaired, and drivers who engage in other acts of negligence. After being harmed in a car crash, you have the right to file a personal injury claim. It is important that you initiate your claim within the statute of limitations.
What is the Statute of Limitations?
When it comes to filing a car accident lawsuit in Texas, understanding the statute of limitations is crucial. The statute of limitations specifies the exact amount of time that you have to file your claim after an accident. In Texas, the statute of limitations for personal injury cases, including car accidents, is generally two years from the date of the accident.
It is important to note that this two-year deadline applies to most car accident lawsuits in Texas. However, there are exceptions that can either shorten or extend this timeframe. For instance, if the at-fault party is a government entity or employee, you may need to provide notice within a much shorter period.
Waiting too long to initiate a personal injury claim against the responsible party can result in losing your legal right to seek full and fair compensation for the injuries and damages you face. That’s why it’s crucial to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney as soon as possible after an accident.
